Understanding the thoughts, experiences and actions of service users enables us to create better services. Despite this being a
known fact, children are rarely invited to take part in actual development efforts. Grasping the needs and perspectives of children
requires the willingness and skill to stop and engage with their thinking and behaviour with an open mind, which leads to entirely new insights.
The idea for this guide was born in the context of Save the Children Finland’s development operations in 2018 when one of our service designers sat down with experts in child participation and co-design. We noticed that we share many similar thoughts but we also have a lot to learn from each other. This led to us wanting to collate the insights in the form of this guide
